Christopher Egan Cast in New Joffe Film “Singularity”

Chris mentioned this role as a possibility a couple of times over the summer while promoting “Letters to Juliet”, but now it appears to be official! He will join Josh Hartnett and Chris Pine in Roland Joffe’s new film “Singularity”. The other two actors will presumably play the British officer and the officer’s brother so perhaps Chris will be playing the American marine biologist? More info as we get it!

While promoting his new release BUNRAKU, Josh Hartnett told Tribute.ca in a video interview that he will be heading soon to India to shoot acclaimed French director Roland Joffe next project SINGULARITY. Hartnett will star as British captain James Stewart alongside Indian star Aishwarya Rai. Chris Pine is also said to be onboard to play the brother of Josh Hartnett’s character. Paul Breuls’ Belgian production, sales and financing entity Corsan is producing.

The film is an epic romance centred around four characters — a British officer in colonial India, the Indian woman he falls in love with, an American marine biologist and his lover, who is a researcher trapped in a wrecked British merchant ship.

Christopher Egan NOT in “Mission Impossible 4″

The role Chris was supposed to be testing with Tom Cruise for has been awarded to Jeremy Renner, and Chris’s screen test has been canceled, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Paramount Pictures has chosen Jeremy Renner to infuse new blood in its Mission: Impossible franchise. Renner, the Oscar-nominated star of The Hurt Locker, will star alongside Tom Cruise in the fourth installment of a franchise that will begin production in the fall. Brad Bird is directing and Cruise is producing with JJ Abrams.

The studio planned to test a group of young actors later this week… but it was clear that Paramount wasn’t sure what it was going to do. Those tests have been canceled.

Sucks. But the fact that the studio had Chris in mind for such a huge role is a great sign, hopefully they will have something else in store for him soon!

Christopher Egan Testing for “Mission Impossible 4″

Finally some news, and it would be huge if it worked out! Chris is in contention for a possible role in the highly anticipated next installment of the “Mission Impossible” franchise starring Tom Cruise. The Wrap reports he, Anthony Mackie and Kevin Zegers are all being considered, though it’s not clear if it’s for the same role or different ones. Deadline Hollywood also reports the 3 of them will be testing with Tom Cruise on Thursday and Friday.

Anthony Mackie, Kevin Zegers and Chris Egan are all being eyed for roles in Brad Bird’s highly-anticipated sequel, individuals familiar with the casting process have told Deal Central. For its part, Paramount has denied to TheWrap that the trio are in contention to join the cast.

It’s unclear whether the actors are in competition with one another, or whether there are several parts to be cast, but TheWrap has learned that they’ve auditioned to be new additions to the “M:I” team, and have already screen tested or will do so shortly.

This week, Paramount Pictures and director Brad Bird will begin testing actors to star alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 4. I’m told that three of the actors who’ll test with Cruise on Thursday and Friday are Vampire’s Keven Zegers, Kings star Christopher Egan, and Anthony Mackie, who starred in the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. Cruise is producing the film with JJ Abrams, and Paramount Pictures is co-financing with David Ellison’s Skydance.

Good luck, Chris, really hope you get it!!

“Letters to Juliet” Makes $13.8mil Opening Weekend

It came in an expected third after “Iron Man 2″ and “Robin Hood”.

Tweens and their mothers were not as smitten by Letters to Juliet as Summit Entertainment had initially hoped. The PG-rated Tuscan romance earned an estimated $13.8 million, less than originally guesstimated based on Friday’s numbers. And exit polling shows it was not teens at all that were driving the opening to this film but women over the age of 25 who made up 63% of the audience. The opening is far beneath what Amanda Seyfried scored with Dear John, which opened back in February to $30 million and went on to gross $80 million. Juliet lacked the star power of Channing Tatum, a factor that surely limited its appeal with the younger set. However, with an A- from exit pollster Cinemascore, strong word of mouth could help the film’s staying power in the weeks to come.
